# Rogue CVT — what the quotes should be, and the one question that decides it (23 Oct 2026)

## Verified 2026 price anchors for a 2014 Rogue CVT
- **Remanufactured unit, part only, 2014 Rogue AWD (VIN 5 = US-built): $3,208–$4,341**, 3-year unlimited-mile warranty included (reman-transmission.com, 2014 Rogue listing). FWD variants $3,173–$4,402. AWD with tow package: $4,396.
- **Published Canadian benchmarks** (APA / Quebec auto press, 2020–21 figures, and prices have risen since): used installed **from ~$2,700**; rebuilt by a specialist **from ~$3,500**; **new at a dealer $6,000–$7,000 installed** (matransmission.ca, citing APA). The part alone for a used unit sells for $2,000–$2,500.
- **US dealer benchmark** (KBB, 2014 Rogue): $6,144–$6,606 including parts and labour — parts $4,614–$4,948, labour $1,530–$1,658.

**So the dealer benchmark of $4,500–$7,000 in the task is sound but the low end is optimistic:** new-at-dealer is $6,000–$7,000 installed in Canadian figures. Anything quoted under $3,000 installed is a **used** unit.

## The flag on Cars With Fares' $2,800–$4,000 "flat" quote
Add it up: a reman unit alone is $3,208–$4,341, and installation is 8-ish hours of labour (~$800–$1,200 at $100–$150/hr). A true reman installed therefore lands at **$4,000–$5,500**. A flat $2,800–$4,000 that includes a unit and labour is almost certainly a **used CVT**, not reman.

That matters because a used CVT from a known-failure family is buying the same failure with fewer kilometres in front of it. The single question to ask every shop:

> "Is the unit you're quoting **used, rebuilt, or remanufactured** — and what is the warranty in **months and kilometres**, and who honours it if I move?"

Then ask whether the quote includes: CVT fluid, the pan/filter, reprogramming/calibration, and the core charge.

## The arithmetic that decides repair vs dispose
- Best realistic repaired outcome: reman installed ≈ **$4,000–$5,500** (independent) or **$6,000–$7,000** (dealer).
- Running 2014 Rogue with ~252,000 km market value: the as-is dealer comp was $3,799; a running private sale would be maybe $6,000–$8,000.
- **Repair net: $6,500 running value − $4,500 mid repair = ~$2,000, after weeks without the car and with a car that still has 252,000 km on everything else.**
- **Sell as-is at $1,500–$2,300: about the same money, today, with no risk.**
- Against the **$1,260 trade-in offer**, a $1,500 private as-is sale is **+$240**, and $2,300 is **+$1,040**.

**Conclusion: the repair only makes sense if Anjal wants a spare AWD vehicle, not to make money.** On the numbers, dispose as-is. This corroborates yesterday's analysis (`deliverables/2026-10-22/rogue_repair_vs_sell.md`).

## Settlement check — closed, confirmed
The 2022 Canadian CVT class settlement extended coverage to 7 years / 140,000 km for **2013–16 Altima, 2013–17 Juke, 2013–17 Sentra, 2012–14 Versa, 2014–17 Versa Note** and explicitly **does not cover the Rogue** (matransmission.ca, in French: "il ne couvre pas le Rogue"). Even if it did, a 2014 vehicle is past 7 years and past 140,000 km. No claim exists. Don't spend time on it.
