# E-ZPass for the 2020 Odyssey — Canadian eligibility verified (24 Oct 2026)

## Can an Ontario resident get one? Yes — no US residency requirement
- NY State's own "Get an E-ZPass" page: **Eligibility — "Anyone is eligible for E-ZPass."** You need a
licence plate number and a credit card or chequing account.
- The paper individual application carries **"State/Province" and "Zip Code/Postal Code"** fields, so
Canadian addresses are a supported path, not a workaround.
- Peace Bridge (Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority) is a Canadian-side issuer of the same
E-ZPass NY tag: **transponders are free**, initial charge of **$25.00 USD ($33.00 CAD)** is pre-loaded
tolls, **no annual fees, no expiry**, auto-replenish on a card on file.

## The money — this is the why
Peace Bridge toll, autos:

| Payment | USD | CAD |
|---|---|---|
| **E-ZPass** | **$4.00** | — |
| Cash/debit/credit at booth | $8.00 | $11.00 |

**E-ZPass is exactly half price at the Peace Bridge** — $4 saved per crossing into Canada, and there is
no toll entering the US. On the Thruway and Grand Island bridges the cash rate is a further 30% higher
plus a $2.00 USD administrative surcharge and late-payment fees.

## How to get the tag — three routes, cheapest first
1. **Peace Bridge Authority, 100 Queen St, Fort Erie** — in person, **Tue & Thu only, 9:00am–4:00pm**,
or buy at a staffed Peace Bridge toll booth.
2. **By mail — call 905-994-3681**, they post a transponder; **Canada Post charge $15.00 + HST**. This is
the only route that doesn't require driving to Fort Erie on a Tuesday or Thursday.
3. **Online at e-zpassny.com** (standard plan, **$25.00 prepayment required**) or **1-800-333-8655**
(24/7). US retail "On-the-Go" tags are $25 at NY retailers ($30 in NYC/Long Island) — the full
amount is credited to the account once the tag is registered, but that requires being in NY.

## Two details worth knowing before signing up
- **Tag replacement is not free**: interior tag $16.00, exterior $22.00 if lost, stolen or defaced.
Moving the tag to a different vehicle means updating the account, not just peeling it off.
- The published schedule of administrative fees includes a **"PANYNJ monthly Account service fee
$1.00."** It is listed against PANYNJ facilities, but if it posts to the account that is $12/year —
check the first statement rather than assuming "no fees" is absolute.
- A balance that runs dry means toll-by-mail at the higher cash rate plus fees, so keep auto-replenish on.

## Blocked on
- **Nothing to proceed** — the tag can be ordered by phone with the Odyssey's plate and VIN. The only
input is the VIN/plate and which card to put on file.
