Rogue CVT — what the quotes should be, and the one question that decides it (23 Oct 2026)

Verified 2026 price anchors for a 2014 Rogue CVT

So the dealer benchmark of $4,500–$7,000 in the task is sound but the low end is optimistic: new-at-dealer is $6,000–$7,000 installed in Canadian figures. Anything quoted under $3,000 installed is a used unit.

The flag on Cars With Fares' $2,800–$4,000 "flat" quote

Add it up: a reman unit alone is $3,208–$4,341, and installation is 8-ish hours of labour (~$800–$1,200 at $100–$150/hr). A true reman installed therefore lands at $4,000–$5,500. A flat $2,800–$4,000 that includes a unit and labour is almost certainly a used CVT, not reman.

That matters because a used CVT from a known-failure family is buying the same failure with fewer kilometres in front of it. The single question to ask every shop:

"Is the unit you're quoting used, rebuilt, or remanufactured — and what is the warranty in months and kilometres, and who honours it if I move?"

Then ask whether the quote includes: CVT fluid, the pan/filter, reprogramming/calibration, and the core charge.

The arithmetic that decides repair vs dispose

Conclusion: the repair only makes sense if Anjal wants a spare AWD vehicle, not to make money. On the numbers, dispose as-is. This corroborates yesterday's analysis (deliverables/2026-10-22/rogue_repair_vs_sell.md).

Settlement check — closed, confirmed

The 2022 Canadian CVT class settlement extended coverage to 7 years / 140,000 km for 2013–16 Altima, 2013–17 Juke, 2013–17 Sentra, 2012–14 Versa, 2014–17 Versa Note and explicitly does not cover the Rogue (matransmission.ca, in French: "il ne couvre pas le Rogue"). Even if it did, a 2014 vehicle is past 7 years and past 140,000 km. No claim exists. Don't spend time on it.

None on the analysis. The three calls are Anjal's; the script above makes each call 90 seconds.
